PRILIM-evaluation

My prilimenary tasks evaluation.

The Idea
Our group worked quickly to come up with our initial idea for our film. All of our group (Tom, Dave, Lee& myself) contributed to the thinking behind our project which was a man who was involved in an affair with another man, but the audience does not find out his affair is with a man at first as he id dressed up to look like woman. As this was a practice project we chose to base the project around camera work rather than an actual storyline. This worked well as we were able to use many different shots due to the nature of our film, it could involve allot of close up shots to portray emotion, and long shots to establish the scene. Therefore we were able to stick to all the requirements needed for this project, for example, shot-reverse-shot and the 180 degree rule. Scripting and Storyboarding For the scripting and storyboarding of this project we split up into two groups. As there was four of us, two of us did the script and two of us did the storyboard. I was storyboarding with Dave, and the storyboard was finished first so Dave& i could help tom and Luke with the scripting. Dave took control of the storyboard, drawing it and numbering the scenes although i did help contribute ideas for shots and positioning of trhe characters. Filming As we needed a certain feel for our production we asked Alastair if we could 'borrow' his house in order to film the establishing shot of the house from outside, and also the key in the door scene. We then went on to film certain parts of our film throughout the school. For example we used the sixth form common room and chairs for the bed scenes. Dave was in charge of filming for the project itself as he did not want to be involved in the acting side of the production. I did not want to act in the film, as i am far from a decent actor! However i agreed to conform as we needed a woman to be in it and i didn't want to disappoint and let our group down. Overall the filming went really well. We managed to get it done in the allotted time and it came out relatively well. The only down side is that project itself could have been of better quality and we could have worked more efficiently to get it finished more quickly. Editing I wasn't heavily involved in the editing process as i did not fully understand the process, but i watched and gave my opinion when lee and tom were doing the editing. I was worried that i would delete some scenes or mix it up without realising so didn't really involve myself as much as i could have done. The software seemed easy to use and my input was mainly speaking about my ideas. We came across some problems, for example we deleted some bits of work by accident, but we managed to re-capture it. We also realised that we needed to re-film some of what we had, which is good as it turned out better than it had originally. Lee and Tom edited mainly and they did a very good job at putting the scenes in the right order and making them merge smoothly from one to another. Dave was in charge of the music and sound effects, he originally wanted to use a song by an artist called 'Nic Nell' as he is a friend of his on myspace and the song was relevant. Nic said that he would send some samples of his work to us to use on the project, however they did not arrive in time and we were not able to use them. Also, our sound from the filming did not show up when transferred onto the computer so we had to dub over it. However, i was away in a lesson when they decided to dub the sound, so Lee had to talk over my parts, putting on a girls voice! The editing actually went really well and I'm disappointed in myself that i didn't get more involved, therefore i will get myself much more involved next time. Overall I think the editing was rather well done and came out nicely considering we did not have a large amount of time to do it as we spent most of out time filming. Conclusion In conclusion, our group worked very well together and the production turned out well. We had a few problems, with absences during filming and storyboarding took a little longer than it should have done, but overall i am happy with our project and think it worked well. I really enjoyed working on this and it has spurred me on to actually plan my time-keeping better so that i have adequate time for my filming and planning. Ithink the whole of our group is pleased with the outcome of this project and have learnt from our mistakes!
